Surfside Aquasports Kayak Tours
Our Kayak & Snorkel Safari leaves from the public dock in South Sound which is located just South of George Town on the Southern coast of Grand Cayman. The tour is approximately three hours long and begins with a safety briefing and orientation on paddling techniques.
First Stop: The Red Mangroves: The red mangroves work to stabilize the beach and minimize erosion in storm conditions, but they also provide a safe habitat for juvenile fish, conch (say "conk"), and lobster. Be on the look out for these creatures as your guide outlines the relationship between the delicate sea grass beds and the extensive mangrove population.
Second Stop: The Alcove: The small, protected alcove is home to hundreds of Cassiopeia, otherwise known as "upside down jellyfish". Look closely into the shimmering waters and you will see their fragile bodies floating in the current.
Third Stop: The Reef: Your guide will lead you to our private snorkeling platform and provide you with gear so that you can explore the nearby coral head and observe its "other" visitors - a multitude of tropical fish that gather to feast on the algae. The water depth in this area ranges between 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 feet.
